I have posted a rather long review of this game at: http://www.bsu.edu/web/00taholaday/GGR.html. I think it is a wonderful value for the pieces alone and I have some nice things to say about the game play as well. If you don't mind your children becoming little warlords PUT THIS GAME UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE! By the way, my five year old can play the basic rules. I would guess that's bare minimum, though, and he's really smart (no really, I'm not just saying that because I'm his Dad).

The terrain hexes allow for a large variety of "boards" to play on. Is easy enough for my 11-year-old to play but allows for enough strategy to come into play so that my older kids and I can really enjoy it as well.
You get a lot of game for the money, lots of re-play value and the good quality of the game pieces let you know that you'll be able to enjoy HeroScape for a long time.
