Excellent game, easy to learn and introduce to new players, still very thrilling with all the extension. one of the best buys of the last few years, seriously.

I loved this game! Can be played simply, or with a lot of thought and strategy. But it doesn't consume your entire night like some of the other games of this type. Fun!

If you asked me the three best gateway games, I would without hesitation tell you Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, and Carcassonne (Hans im Gluck and Rio Grande, 2000 - Klaus-Jurgen Wrede). Each of the three games has their selling points, and Carcassonne has been one of my favorite games to suck more people into the fold of great board games. More recently, I’ve just begun to use the basic principles of the game to teach my four year old some tactics and strategies. Carcassonne looks fantastic when set up on the table, has a wide range of expansions available, and should be a part of every gamer’s collection.

Tiles show depictions of farmland, cities, rivers, roads, and monasteries. Draw a tile and place it on the center of the table to match any sides adjacent to previously played tiles. After placing a tile, you may also play one of your markers to claim a segment of road, city, farm, or monastery. Whenever a road, city, or monastery is completed, you score points and get your marker(s) back. Since yo ...Read the rest of this review

Carcassonne is a great connection game, and wonderful in the sense that the expansions bring a lot of variety. To the vanilla Carcassone, you have the options of Inns and Cathedrals, Traders and Builders, The River, and King. These can all be used together or in any combination thereof. I find that after a while, vanilla Carcassone could use the variety of these expansions, which each bring different textures and strategies to this simple yet appealing game.

There's a reason the game has this many expansions-- it's good. I find that I can play it with people who don't really enjoy games. My friend who I simply wanted to play one game with ended up requesting three more games. It didn't ma ...Read the rest of this review
